Happy New Year 2008! As Starry Nights Catering & Events begins its third year in business, we have an exciting announcement.

Chef Matt Cooking at FareStart on January 31

Chef Matt will be FareStart's Guest Chef for Thursday, January 31, 2008! We are thrilled and honored to be a part of this excellent organization. Very few caterers are asked to participate in Guest Chef Night, so it's a very big deal!

For those of you not familiar with FareStart, this is a fabulous job training and placement program for homeless and disadvantaged individuals. Over the past 15 years, FareStart has provided opportunities for over 2,000 people to transform their lives.

Every Thursday night, a different Guest Chef works with the students to prepare a three-course meal for over 200 guests, served at FareStart's restaurant on 7th and Virginia in Seattle. Not only has it been called "Seattle's best food lover's event" and one of Seattle Weekly's Best Restaurants of 2007, but 100% of the proceeds and gratuities from Guest Chef Night go back into the program and fund student services and training.

It's Time For Cake Decorating!

Just in time for Valentine's Day, Starry Nights Catering & Events will be teaching a Valentine's Basic Cake & Cookie Decorating Class. Make the perfect heart-shaped cakes and cookies for your sweetheart this year (or, save them all for yourself!). Cake and cookie-loving couples, friends, and children over 10 are welcome!

Basic Cake Decorating
Tuesday February 12th, 7-9pm
$55/pp
Learn basic cake decorating techniques including slicing and filling layers, masking, and basic piping and frosting techniques; learn royal icing techniques for perfect heart-shaped cookies!

You Saw the Show, Now Read the Book.

We here at Starry Nights fondly remember our 15 minutes of fame last January 2007 when Chef Matt was featured on an episode of the Travel Channel's "Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations." So imagine our glee when we were informed that Chef Bourdain has written a book about his last year with "No Reservations"- complete with photos. Now, we can't exactly explain what Chef Matt is doing in his very large, half-page photo on the last page of the book, but if you're curious, "No Reservations: Around the World on an Empty Stomach" is for sale on Amazon.com.
